Summary:
The possibility of the world switching to entirely clean energy in a matter of two decades is thought to be possible, if done correctly. The method which is hypothesized would mainly use pre-existing power plants, and infrastructure; expanding on it where need be. Most problems combatting a complete transformation is the scarcity of some materials, and the political issues which may arise from the gain and loss of wealth in many countries.
Critical Thinking:
1) Over the years, society has spent enormous amounts of money to build the current energy system. Why does this make it difficult to change to a new energy system?
These sunk costs are often part of the governments argument against switching to new forms of energy. Tax payers are told that there money was already invested elsewhere, so by switching to new technologies their money will have been wasted.
